AI rugby technique analysis:
tackle, kick, sprint, ruck

Film a rep on your phone. ATHLAITE tracks your joints frame by frame, scores the technique, names the weak points and hands you the drills that fix them. Built for rugby first, because that is where our analysis goes deepest.

What gets analysed

Four rugby skills.
Every joint, every frame.

The AI finds your body in every frame of the clip and tracks hips, shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles. From those points it measures what a coach estimates by eye: angles, heights, timing. Then it compares your rep with what good technique looks like for that skill.

AI pose analysis of a rugby player with the joints tracked

Tackle

Body height going into contact, where your head is relative to the ball carrier, whether the shoulder makes contact before the arms wrap, and how much leg drive you keep after the hit. Low, head to the side, shoulder first, feet still moving: the analysis checks each of those.

Kick

Where the plant foot lands next to the ball, how far the hips rotate through the strike, the angle of the kicking leg at contact, and whether the follow-through goes toward the target. Place kicks and punts are read the same way, from the run-up to the finish.

Sprint

Knee drive, arm swing, forward lean out of the start, and where the foot lands relative to the hips. The analysis measures the angles rep by rep, so you see whether you are reaching out in front of your body or driving the ground behind you.

Ruck

Entry angle through the gate, body height at the moment you hit the ruck, foot position before contact, and whether your spine stays straight while you drive. Strong rucks are built low and square; the analysis shows you where you stand up early.

Contact skills carry injury risk. Practise tackling and rucking under qualified supervision, within the tackle-height law and age-grade rules that apply to you, and never train contact through pain. ATHLAITE's analysis describes movement; it is not medical advice and does not assess whether contact is safe or legal.

How to film

One phone, the right angle, three reps.

Phone set up to film a training session

Step 01

Set up one phone

Lean your phone against a bag or clip it to a tripod, at roughly hip height, in landscape. Stand about five to ten metres away so your whole body stays in the frame from head to feet. The app shows you the angle and distance each drill needs.

  • Side-on for kicks and sprints
  • Front-side at 45° for tackles and rucks

Step 02

Train, then upload

Do three to five reps of the skill in one clip and train exactly as you always do. Daylight or floodlights are both fine, just avoid filming straight into the sun. A second phone from another angle is optional, but it makes the analysis more precise.

  • Any phone or camera works
  • Two angles for a more precise analysis

Step 03

Feedback in about a minute

Upload straight from the phone. The analysis runs in about a minute and comes back as a frame-by-frame breakdown with a score, the weak points named, and drills picked to fix exactly those. Every session is stored, so the next clip shows whether it worked.

  • Every session scored and stored
  • Drills matched to your weak points

What you get back

A score, the reasons, and what to do next.

Technique score

One number from 0 to 100 for the rep, plus your average pace on the clip. The score is the same scale every session, so a 71 in March and an 84 in May is real progress, not a feeling.

Biomechanics

The measured angles behind the score, such as knee angle, hip rotation or release height, each shown against the range good technique sits in. This is the part a coach would estimate by eye; here it is measured.

Coach AI feedback

Two or three sentences in plain words about what to change first, for example "Your release point is too low. Drive your elbow through the motion and follow through toward the target." You can ask the Coach AI follow-up questions any time.

Focus areas and drills

The weak points become focus areas, and each focus area points at drills from the library that train exactly that. You know what to fix and how to train it before you leave the pitch.

Tackle, kick, sprint and ruck today, plus passing. Each skill has its own technique model: the AI tracks your joints through the movement, measures the angles and timing that matter for that skill, and compares them with good technique.
